Cloudflare R2
R2 has no egress fees, which makes it a good fit for a drive you open often. The free tier covers 10 GB of storage per month. Cloudflare asks for a payment card to verify the account even if you stay inside the free tier.
- Access key and secret
- Bucket name
- Account ID required
- Region auto
Steps
- Create a Cloudflare account at dash.cloudflare.com and add a payment card when prompted.
- In the dashboard sidebar, open R2 Object Storage and enable it for the account.
- Choose Create bucket. Give it a lowercase name. Under location, you can leave the default or pick a jurisdiction. The EU and FedRAMP jurisdictions keep data inside that boundary and use a different endpoint, so note which one you chose.
- Back on the R2 overview page, look for API Tokens and choose Manage. Then look for Create Account API token (or Create User API token).
- Set the permission to Object Read & Write. You can limit the token to the one bucket you just made. Leave the TTL as forever unless you want it to expire.
- After you confirm, Cloudflare shows the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key. The secret is shown only this once. Copy both.
- Copy your Account ID. It appears on the R2 overview page and in the S3 endpoint shown with the token, which looks like
https://<account-id>.r2.cloudflarestorage.com.
